No More Allergies
How much would you pay for a cat? One New York City family paid $3,950 for a hypoallergenic cat from Allerca (a California based company that removes allergens from cats’ genes). The family was on a wait list for 2 years and they finally received their orange striped cat named Dempsey (pictured here — he was named after Patrick Dempsey from “Grey’s Anatomy”). If you want one, place your order before May 1 because after that, Allerca is raising their prices to $6,950. Don’t worry, Allerca has a one year money back guarantee if your cat is not hypoallergenic.

Something tells me there’s something not right here.

Isn’t it nice to have ‘money back guarantees’ after one year. (note the sarcasm)
ITCHMO ADMIN: No kidding. We can’t ever imagine ever “returning” a pet.

This is horrible. There are so many cats who need good homes, and here they are creating new ones with genetic modifications whose ramifications we can’t predict.

I see it happen too much at the rescue I am at (as in at least 10 times since I have been their Feb 06); *at least* they usually return them to us as we ask during the adoption process rather than dump them somewhere else. Too many people seem to look at getting a pet as just another consumeristic wouldn’t it be great to add a pet to my collection of *things.*
When *thing* starts behaving other than *owner* wants the honeymoon is over and they no longer want the *thing* that is behaving outside of their preconceived parameters of how *things* should act.

Just be sure that if you must have a GM cat, that it’s only the dander that is the only thing that sets your body off. A former in-law as thinking about getting a Wheaton Terrier because she’s allergic to dogs She went to visit one at her daughter’s friend’s house after applying hand lotion. Result:the dog licked her hands,of course, and she broke out in a bad rash nd hives. She loaded up on Benadryl and then got some kitties and all is well. My cat licks - a lot.If I were allergic to the saliva, it wold be a bad situation!
